![]() One application used standard company products and a center-bonded mount. Center-bonded mounts have been used in turbines with generating capacities of 100 kW and smaller to isolate most equipment. For instance, isolators for small turbines are readily available, cost-effective, durable, and maintenance-free. Noise and vibration in smaller turbines are equally troublesome, but solutions differ. can be used in a variety of applications in the wind-power industry. Structural adhesives and passive motion control devices from Lord Corp. Side benefits to this solution include reduced drive-train noise and improved life of rotating component One solution to drivetrain component-life issues in similar equipment is to apply torsionally soft couplings to reduce variable torque and tune away harmful resonances. Rotating components in turbine drivetrains also present challenging reliability issues. Torque-restraining mounts that react to torque and provide isolation have also been considered. Large isolators provide a ‘soft’ attachment between the gearbox, nacelle, and tower structures to interrupt the noise path, reducing stress on large, expensive components, and eliminating critical vibration modes that could cause structural damage. Several manufacturers are focusing on ways to improve the operation of 1.5-MW versions, a size frequently found on today’s wind farms. Meshing gears, rotating components, and generators on the turbines also produce excess vibration and noise signatures in large, small, new, and old wind turbines. These should reduce vibration amplitude, lower structure-borne noise levels, and extend equipment life – all important to the wind industry. ![]() Gearboxes and generators inside the nacelle are often mounted on vibration isolators. Noise and vibration attenuation are key considerations driving a need for isolation systems that are easy to install, provide a long service life, and reduce the transmission of noise and vibration. Because nacelles are perched 200 to 300-ft up and at the end of a swaying tower, equipment mounts, often vibration isolators for the equipment in a nacelle, must work reliably for long periods to minimize maintenance. Untamed vibration shortens major component life, loosens bolts, causes weld failures, and contributes to gear and bearing failures. The good news for turbine OEMs and O&M crews is that there are a range of devices for controlling vibration. Their equipment is bolted to a large frame but vibration control is minimal. Ground-based power generation equipment has the advantage of mounting to foundations with large masses that dissipate vibration so it is not passed to nearby equipment. The components around the nacelle show a few mounting and vibration control devices from Lord Corp.

![]() They continue to say that since people can never have all of the information needed to make totally risk-free decisions, they need to act quickly, learn from those actions, and then be ready to implement course corrections as problems arise. Like everything, it has its good side and its bad.Īdvocates of ready, fire, aim cite how it promotes a bias for action. This phrase may have a lot of different definitions, but for the purposes of this discussion, it refers to taking immediate action, including simply reacting to something, before thinking it through very thoroughly. ![]() What do you think about that? Is ready, fire, aim, the best strategy for success? Over time, I have become a bit surprised at the number of people who are almost boasting about being part of a ready, fire, aim culture. the aim and objectives can be achieved within a limited time frame.Ever heard the expression, “ready, fire, aim?” I frequently hear people use those words to describe how their organizations operate. Moreover, they need to be realistic, i.e. There should be no contradiction between these two and they should not repeat each other in different ways. They are prepared in such a way, that they should show a connection between what a company aspires, and how it is going to pursue those aims. Further, the aims and objectives of any entity must be concise and brief. When it comes to specification, aims are a bit vague while objectives are very specific. objectives are measurable in nature while aims lack measurability. Last but not the least difference between these two is on measurability, i.e.On the other hand, objectives are always accompanied with a time frame, within which it must be achieved. there is no time frame within which the aim of the entity must be achieved as it is hard to say accurately, how much time it will take to achieve. Aim answers the question, what is to be achieved? Unlike objective which answers, How it is to be achieved?.The aim is related to the company’s mission and purpose whereas objectives are concerned with the achievements of the company. On the other hand, the objective is the specific goal of an individual or company. Aim refers to the general direction or intent of an individual/company.The aim of the entity reflects its long-term outcomes while its objectives indicate the short term targets of the entity. The objective is something a person/entity seeks to achieve, by continuously chasing it. The term aim is described as the ultimate goal, which an individual or the entity strive to achieve. The following points are vital, so far as the difference between aim and objective is concerned: Key Differences Between Aim and Objective The characteristic of objectives are described as SMART+C: they are small steps taken by the entity to reach the long term aim. They have a short range perspective, i.e. ![]() Objectives act as an instruction for the employees of the company, what they need to do, to attain the desired result. They are used in different context and are in the form of short sentences, explaining what you want actually. Objectives are concrete targets or goals of the company, that needs to be fulfilled within a time frame and with limited resources. Definition of ObjectiveĪfter the aims are set by the organization, the next step is to formulate objectives. It has a long range perspective which reflects aspirations and ambition of the entity. It can be chunked into various objectives which help in reaching the aim easily. These are the sentences which ascertain the target of the program/project.Īims act as basic directions while conducting a research or carrying out a project. In the article, Max Worker Threads for SQL Server Always on Availability Group databases, we explored the use of system_health extended event session for the SQL Server Always On Availability Group databases. SQL Server Deadlock monitoring using the system_health extended event Let’s look at another way of monitoring the deadlock in SQL Server without enabling the trace flags as well. Let’s enable these trace flags and simulate a SQL Server deadlock situation. Out of these two trace flags, the useful and recommended trace flag is 1222 as it returns the resources, their lock and deadlock information in an XML format. Usually, DBA enables the trace flag 12 to capture the deadlock information in the SQL Server error logs. It is essential to monitor this deadlock situation. The killed process is known as the Deadlock victim. SQL Server automatically monitors the deadlocks every 5 seconds and kills a session so that another transaction can complete the work. This thread also needs to wait for the other transactions to complete User A also requires to read data from the Invoice Details page to complete the transaction, but that page has an Exclusive lock by the user B. It has to wait until the User A releases the Exclusive lock on the page It tries to place an Intent Shared lock on the Invoice table and shared lock on the page to read the data. User B wants to read the same data user A wants to update. User A also requires an Exclusive lock (X) on the row of the Invoice table User A: Intent Exclusive (IX) lock on the Invoice table and page it requires to modify We can further understand the SQL Server deadlock scenario using the following image. ![]() ![]() Both the threads cannot process due to insufficient resources. In the following image, we can see that thread A is waiting for the resources held by thread B, and similarly, thread B is waiting for the resources held by thread A. If two processes in SQL Server wants to have exclusive access to a resource held by the other process, it is called a deadlock situation. It is normal behavior and helps to ensure the ACID properties (Atomicity- Consistency – Isolation – Durability). SQL Server obtains locks on required resources to perform specific tasks such as Select, Insert, Update, Delete. ![]() However, designs tend to look best when you leave a significantly larger margin. Content that gets too close to the edge risks getting cut off, so you should keep at least 1/8th”/3mm safety margin within the trim edge of the page. Margin GuidesĪs with bleed, safety margins have an industry standard. Now do the same using the left ruler to the left and right of the page. Now click and drag from the top ruler, and place a Guide 1/8th” above the bottom edge of the page. Click and drag from your top ruler and place a Guide 1/8th” down from the top of the page. So, the trim edge is 1/8th” in from the top, bottom, left, and right. We’ve already established that standard bleed is 1/8th”, and your document size includes bleed. To create Guides, just click and drag from one of the rulers onto your document. For this example, we’re creating an 8.5” x 11” document.įirst, if you don’t already see rulers along the top and bottom of your window, go to View > Rulers. Guides are non-printing lines that you can use to represent the trim edge of your page and the margin within which all your important content should stay. Now that your document is set up properly, there’s just one more step to make sure you’re creating a usable design: using Guides to define your work space. ![]() So, for an 8.5” x 11” document being set up in Photoshop, your size should be set to 8.75” x 11.25”. The print industry’s standard bleed is typically 1/8th” (0.125”)/3mm on each side of your document. “Bleed” is the little sliver of art that you build into a design with the intention of it getting trimmed off. They don’t trim at the edge, where the art stops and the blank white border begins, but actually cut into the art a bit to avoid any hint of that white border. When you see professionally-printed designs with art going edge to edge (we call that “full bleed”), that’s because the printer printed with those same white borders and then trimmed into the art a little bit. Have you noticed that whenever you try to print a nice photo across an entire sheet of paper, there are always white borders around the edges? That’s because a majority of printers aren’t built to print right to the edge. If you wanna just skip this word malarky and get on with a project, you can copy the settings in this screenshot exactly to create an 8.5" x 11" document, but I encourage you to read on. There are 3 main attributes you should set up correctly when preparing a document for print in Photoshop: I know, bummer, and hopefully this post will let you avoid that in the future, but you have to start over. Well first, I should say that if you’ve already created a design at 300ppi or less, using anything other than plain, unadorned, still-editable text, you can’t just scale it up. If you print a document at what we’ve all been told is high-resolution 300ppi, it’s gonna look pixelated (what we in the biz refer to as “bad”). Plus, it turns out that a lot of what we’ve been taught about how pixels and resolution interact with a printer is just wrong, so that doesn’t help. So Photoshop has to take these clean-edged mathematical curves that make up the simple letters you typed and convert them into jagged, aliased, ugly little pixels. Since text is the thing that makes design design-that is, the practice of doing nice arty things for a real, measurable purpose-that’s kind of important. The reason Photoshop isn’t great for print design is that it’s a raster-based program, and text is vector-based data. You certainly can create print design in Photoshop, and I’m gonna tell you how, but just expect a frustrating process.īut I’m not here to tell you not to do something. I’m here to tell you how to use a complex tool as best you can, even if it might not be the best one for the job. With that preamble aside, onward to victory. You lovely people are here because you want me to tell you that designing for print in Adobe Photoshop is a cinch that it might be a little tough but you'll be happy relying on this program for all your print design needs.
